This Week in Congress

Recapping Last Week in Congress

Not much to report on from last week. The House wasn't in session, and the Senate was. So there were a grand total of three roll call votes cast all week, only one of which actually passed, that being the confirmation of Donald Verrilli as Solicitor General. Failed, 60-vote threshold votes were held on the Tester amendment (to delay implementation of swipe fee caps) and on the Snowe amendment (to graft her horribly-named "Freedom from Restrictive Excessive Executive Demands and Onerous Mandates Act" onto the the Economic Development Revitalization Act. The EDRA, S. 782, remains pending as unfinished business this week.

This Week in Congress

The House returns to "action" this week, with continued consideration of the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act ("MilCon"), plus the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food & Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. Also possible, depending on available time, is the America Invents Act.

And if circumstances don't change, you might even see Republicans possibly try to capitalize on the weekend calls from Democrats for the resignation of Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY-09) with some sort of censure or even expulsion vote. Though they might prefer letting him linger and exploiting the discomfort it creates.

The Senate begins the week with two more non-controversial nominations to lower court benches, then returns to the exercise of enabling the ongoing Republican program of economic sabotage in the form of endless amendments designed to prevent anything from being accomplished. Not that the Republican House would permit anything to be sent to the President even if Senate Dems were to force their hand.

Full floor and committee schedules are below the fold.
